Social networking is already widely used. It may be viewed on our televisions, laptops, tablets, and even mobile phones. It’s tough to avoid since everyone you see is gripping their phones and reading through their feeds. As new platforms arise, it appears that there is no end in sight.

In this blog post, I will show you some examples of social media platforms. I’m also going to rank it in terms of user numbers. I’ll also share some small details about the platform to give you a better picture of what they’re like.

1. Facebook

You might be surprised to learn that Facebook has evolved into something greater and larger today. They dubbed it Meta. A young guy named Mark Zuckerberg, who was still a college student at the time, started Facebook.

As he and his buddies were meant to be studying, they had an idea to build something significant in the internet world. Their parents were undoubtedly excited to learn of their endeavor.

So Facebook became really popular when it was first developed. Connecting with individuals from all over the world is one of the best features of Facebook. Whether they’re your best friends or simply some random person you met at a party once.

You can also publish updates about some happenings in your life then you will receive likes and comments on your post. It’s a terrific way to stay in touch with old friends, stalk your ex (just joking, that’s not cool), and make new ones.

2. Youtube

Then there’s YouTube, which is my favorite social media platform since watching videos like documentaries and strange vlogs are quite amusing.

I think Youtube is a fantastic platform since it allows people to share videos with the rest of the globe. It’s like a huge library with everything from cute puppies to cleaning your bathroom lessons. And you know what’s the best part? It’s all free to watch.

But it’s not all about just watching some random videos. You can also like, comment, and subscribe. Subscribing means you will get notified of new videos.

You can also create your own Youtube channel and post some entertaining videos out there depending on what niche you like. There’s a chance you could become the next Youtube star with millions of subscribers and adoring fans.

3. WhatsApp

With WhatsApp, you may connect with individuals all around the world and send messages to them. You may make free phone calls as well as send messages, audio notes, and photos.

Jan and Brian, two guys, built the app in 2009. They intended to create messaging software that was simple to use and free. And boy, were they successful! WhatsApp is now used by millions of individuals all around the world.

Yet WhatsApp is more than just conversing with your buddies. You may also join groups and connect with individuals who have similar interests to yours. Sports, food, and humorous memes all have their communities.

Now, if you’re worried about your privacy, you shouldn’t have to because WhatsApp uses End-to-end encryption. This ensures that your messages are entirely secure and cannot be ready by anyone else.

4. Instagram

Instagram is owned by Facebook (now Meta) Instagram is another entertaining social media site where you may post pictures and videos with your pals. Kevin and Mike, two friends, developed it in 2010 with the goal of creating a social networking software just for photo sharing.

Instagram just introduced Reels, a new feature that has considerably increased the app’s entertainment value. It is a 15-second video that you may make within the app. It’s like a mini-movie that you can use to show off your creativity and perhaps teach others.

Instagram is also an excellent platform if you have photographic abilities. You can showcase your pictures through hashtags to interact with other photographers all around the world. Your work can easily be noticed by experimenting with different filters and editing tools.

5. TikTok

TikTok is the most well-liked and trendiest social networking app available right now. I find it difficult to put into words why people are so fixated on this app. The finest spot to be astonished and amused is here. I even urge you to download this application.

And don’t get me started on the problems and trends – they’re ridiculous! Individuals come up with the most brilliant and amusing ideas, and millions of people hop on board and create their versions. It’s like a massive global party that never ends!

TikTok isn’t only for viewing other people’s videos; you can also make your own. I believe that anyone who can generate innovative material may become a TikTok celebrity. Make your films fascinating by using your own imagination.

6. Snapchat

Another fantastic social media tool for expressing your inner fool! Snapchat is the ideal social networking site for sharing ridiculous selfies and videos with your buddies, in my opinion.

So who’s behind the development of Snapchat? Well, it was invented by three friends which is Evan Spiegel, Bobby Murphy, and Reggie Brown.

In 2011, when they were all Stanford freshmen, they developed the idea. They aimed to develop a new kind of social media platform that was less permanent and more private than already existing programs like Facebook and Instagram.

It quickly ascended to the top of the social media heap because of the millions of users who share photos every day. They like how simple it is to share amusing moments with their pals, and how they don’t have to worry about their photos coming back to bother them later.

7. X (formerly Twitter)

A group of friends decided to create a social media network with the goal of real-time ideas and opinion sharing. People from all around the world may engage in this enormous digital playground.

Twitter’s simplicity is one of its most appealing features. Users can send brief messages (called tweets) of up to 280 characters. You’re mistaken if you believe that it doesn’t sound like much. It’s amazing how much you can say on Twitter in just a few short words.

Twitter’s usage of hashtags is another amazing feature. Hashtags are words or phrases that are preceded by the pound symbol (#) and assist to organize tweets by topic.

For example, let’s say you want to learn many things about gardening, go to the search bar and use the hashtag #gardening. You can see many tweets from other people who are also passionate about plants and gardening.

8. Pinterest

Most people were skeptical about Pinterest at first since it was different from Facebook. Yet, as time went on, they recognized that it is also a fantastic application. Consider it your virtual bulletin board, where you can collect and arrange all of your favorite products in one place.

The way to use Pinterest is very simple. You make boards with different topics, such as “Recipes to Try” or “Dream House Design,” and then search for ideas and inspiration on the app, saving them to your boards.

Yet Pinterest is more than simply a platform for saving and sharing ideas. Also, it’s a great place to network and pick up new skills. Joining group boards will allow you to communicate with other users. You can also explore popular pins to find out what’s trending in your niche.

9. Reddit

This social media network was launched in 2005 and functions similarly to a large online forum. Users may share material, vote on it, and discuss it with other users. The material on Reddit ranges from humorous memes to serious news articles and everything in between.

The voting mechanism on Reddit is by far my favorite component. By upvoting or downvoting a piece of material, users may support or oppose it. The greatest content gets pushed to the top of the page so that everyone can view it. It resembles a popularity contest online!

But, the folks who created the voting system are just as wonderful as the vote itself. There are a ton of groups (or subreddits) on Reddit dedicated to everything from lovely animal photos to mental health support.

Those who live in these communities are passionate about their activities and open to imparting their expertise and experiences.

10. LinkedIn

Reid Hoffman founded LinkedIn in 2003, and it rapidly became the go-to tool for job searchers and professionals eager to grow their network. It’s similar to Facebook, except it’s for your work life.

The nice thing about LinkedIn is that it may help businesses advertise themselves and attract new clients as well as job searchers. LinkedIn may be used to discuss company developments and industry news. Writing articles might help you promote your position as an industry expert.

The job search option is one of LinkedIn’s coolest features. LinkedIn allows you to browse for job vacancies and apply immediately through the platform.

You may also discover whether you have any contacts at the organization you’re applying to, which may provide you an advantage throughout the recruiting process.

Final Thoughts

I want to congratulate you now because you’ve completed reading some of the most popular social media platforms on the internet today. I also provided you with some ranking so that it will guide what social media best suits you.

But keep in mind that not everything is about popularity. It’s essential to select the platform that is appropriate for you because each one has distinctive characteristics and advantages of its own.
